Assisi bends over backwards – Domus Focus and art laboratories
This summer discover the past and the Assisi history through four unmissable appointments, among special visits to the Roman domus, day and night, and laboratories on the fresco and ancient mosaic techniques.
From June to October "Assisi bends over backwards": every Saturday afternoon, at 6 pm, and on Sunday morning, at 12 pm, guided visits to discover the secrets of these special "color" houses.
Furthermore, night visits on the first Saturday of the month, at 9 pm: a unique occasion to live a Saturday evening with a magic and unusual atmosphere.
And it's not the end of it: for art enthusiasts on the calendar there are two special laboratories to experiment the ancient fresco and mosaic techniques.
Each Sunday at 3 pm there will be the appointment with "Card after Card", the laboratory about the mosaic technique, while every Saturday, always at 3 pm, it's the turn of "I paint like Giotto", the laboratory dedicated instead to the fresco technique.
Roman Domus
Properzio's domus, rediscovered under the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, is composed of three connecting environments that, on their walls, show many graffiti with poetical lines, one of which quotes a muse of the domus. For this reason they thought that the house could belong to the poet Properzio. Nevertheless this hypothesis never found a proof for lack of archeological and historical supporting elements.
The Lararium domus, under Palazzo Giampé, is located seven meters underground. One of the most interesting elements is the presence of the walls elevation, rare thing outside Rome and Pompei, preserved for more than 4 meters in height in all the environments that have been brought back to light.
The laboratories are suitable for every age.
Booking visits and laboratories is necessary.
