The Città di Castello Grifani-Donati typography is situated along Corso Cavour, in the historical city center, particularly in the premises above the former Saint Paul church dating 1237. The typography, halfway between the museum and the cultural institution, also becomes a place where to admire perfectly working ancient machinery, a space where setting up thematic exhibitions, cultural initiatives, a laboratory to learn techniques that otherwise would be lost.

The Grifani Donati typography, born in 1799, the unique among so ancient companies to be still active today, has become in the last years the compulsory reference point for the process of cultural promotion of the typographic heritage in Città di Castello.

The Graphic Arts Museum replies to the demand of protecting the immense collected cultural heritage, not with the exhibition of obsolete machinery in the museums, but keeping active and productive the only company that is using, still today, those productive processes that in the last century gave shine to the city.

Gianni Ottaviani, the present owner, descendant from the Donati family, will be able to involve you with his innate sympathy and availability in the visit to "his" museum. He will show to the visitors the several printing processes following the ancient procedures: the traditional typography, the lithography, the xylography, the etchings and the engravings, combining the graphic and the educational work. At the end Gianni will deliver to the visitors the works accomplished during the visit.

Along Corso Cavour, few meters from where the typography is located, you will have the possibility to purchase the local gastronomy products. First of all truffles, here available in all the seasons naturally fresh, but also preserved and available in different sauces and then the "Mazzafegato", poor relative of the sausage, extracted from the so called "cleaning of the work bench", recently become a "Slow Food" Presidia.

Cooked with the embers, but also dried it maintains all its taste with the unmistakable smell of spices and above all of the fennel flower. Enjoy your meal !!
