The Quintana Tournament, taking place in Foligno on 14th and 15th June, is an ancient challenge, an exciting race between show and competition.

Immerse yourself in the seventeenth-century atmosphere and let yourself be carried away by the enthusiasm that surrounds the city even in the days preceding the long-awaited challenge, when in the "Campo de li giochi" the knights of the city's ten districts face each other with great skill and mastery.

Each jockey, riding his horse, tries to thread with his spear the ring hanging from the Quintana statue, placed in the middle of an eight-shaped course, in a race that involves three rounds: at each turn the diameter of the ring decreases, becoming increasingly narrow.

The knight who finishes the route in the shortest possible time and without penalty wins the Palio, taking it away from his opponents.

This unique challenge is preceded by the spectacular historical procession that, the evening before the Tournament, parades through the streets of the city centre: nobles and ladies, knights riding their steeds, pages and valets, drummers and trumpeters, bishops and flag-wavers take Foligno back in time, bringing back to life the emotion of the past, in the general setting offered by the baroque costumes, decorations and torches set in the beautiful streets of the city.

This event is very much felt by the people of Foligno and by the inhabitants of the neighbouring villages who, in the days of the Quintana, live a constant celebration.

Join their enthusiasm and take the opportunity to taste traditional Umbrian dishes, accompanied by the best wines of the area, in local taverns, where the aggregation and passion of the Quintana People is concentrated.
