The 52nd edition of the Festival of Nations, dedicated to China and its musical culture, is scheduled in Città di Castello from August 25th to September 7th 2019.


This Festival is going abroad from European borders to pay tribute to the Popular Republic of China at the same time with the 70th anniversary of its birthday. It will have a schedule of 20 most important shows and others various activities that will be playing, as usual, in many artistic places of Città di Castello and in some of the most suggestive villages of Alta Valle del Tevere.
The tribute to China will be a musical trip from the old Beijing moods to the best artistic expression in the Chinese and European contemporary scene. Some important artists, new talents and unpublished productions will take part at this event.
Two orchestral bands there’ll be at this event: the Shenzen Symphony directed by Lin Daye and the Tuscany Orchestra directed by Hong Yin, at the piano solos Jieni Wan and Francesco Libetta. In the context of the two chamber groups, stands out the prestigious presence of the European Chinese Chamber Orchestra, that will open the event and also the presence of the violinist Ning Feng with the pianists Fu Wanying and Fu Yidan. They will play traditional music on original instruments with a painted creation made live by An Pei. The piano solo this year will be entrust to the Chinese Sa Chen.
In the context of the two contemporary languages there’s a great expectation for Stefano Bollani with the project Napoli Trip; also great expectation for the concert dedicated to Salvatore Sciarrino, with the Ensemble Suono Giallo.
The original productions at its debut will be twos in this Festival of Nations: 2 兩, a show by Caterina Casini and Alessandro Stella freely inspired by the Good Soul of the Sezuan by Bertolt Brecht, with music in world premiere by Antonio Gioia; and Turandot.com, "fiaba futuribile" with booklet, music and sound direction by the Perugian composer Raffaele Sargenti.
Between special projects, moreover, it will be very fascinating the rebuilding of a Jesuit celebration from Beijing by the ensemble XVIII.21 Le Baroque Nomade directed by Jean-Cristophe Frisch, with a choral band Tifernate educated by Marcello Marini and Alessandro Bianconi; while David Riondino and LaReverdie will propose a musical trip by the Marco Polo’s tracks in the "Milione", the book of wonders; again, Pochi Avvenimenti, absolutely happiness, a dramaturgy by Maria Grazia Calandrone over Clara and Robert Schumann’s music, in the bicentenary of Clara’s birth, with the actress Gaia De Laurentiis.
Young talents will be protagonist too, in different chamber groups: the duet of the flutist Lorenzo Grittani and of the pianist Maurizio Zaccaria; the trio composed by Sara Pastine at the violin, Giulia Contaldo at the piano and Giovanni Punzi at the clarinet; the opera singers improved in High Formation Classes of Luciano Pavarotti’s Theatre of Modena; the Orchestra and the youth Chorus of the project educational musical itineraries; finally the finalist of the third National Contest Alberto Burri, and the Caravaggio Piano Quartet, winner of the Premio Piero Farulli in the context of the Premio Franco Abbiati 2019. It won’t miss dancing, with a tribute to Nijinskiij staged by the Company EgriBiancoDanza.
