Spoleto Norcia in Mtb Bike Days

Spoleto Norcia in MTB Bike Days 2020

The format of the most popular cycling event in Central Italy changes to avoid gatherings in compliance with anti-Covid rules.

On 4, 5 and 6 September, the guys of the SpoletoNorcia in MTB invite you to discover the most fascinating paths and cycle paths of Umbria by bicycle in absolute safety. It will be possible with all kinds of bikes, be they MTB, E-MTB, gravel or road bike.

There are eight "permanent routes" identified within the Bike District of La SpoletoNorcia: three for MTB (Family, Classic, Hard), one specifically for E-MTB (Nil Simplex), two suitable for Gravel (GreenWay Route and Valle Umbra Route) and moreover two for the classic road bike (Wine Route and Valnerina Route) to get to know this territory in depth.

The routes wind through helical tunnels, breathtaking views and the unspoiled nature of the Valnerina and the Valle Umbra following the former Spoleto Norcia Railway track, dating from the early 1900’s.

Participants will be provided with maps and GPS tracks in order to allow everyone to complete the individual routes in complete autonomy.
The routes will be well marked but not manned by staff. Real check points will be provided and there will be retailers and special desks for affixing the stamps certifying the passage on the path. There will be also virtual check points such as monuments, churches and sources where to take a selfie to provide documentary evidence of the tour.

The itineraries are travel tips to discover the excellence of the territory for mere tourist purposes. They can be covered in whole or in part, over time (even over several days) and so that each participant will be able to decide how to cycle without the obligation of a starting point and time, without a goal to reach and on the bases of their athletic abilities. There is no ranking or timed sections.

In the “headquarters” of the event, for those who certify that they have completed the route at the final check point, a certificate will be issued proving their participation.
You can freely travel the permanent routes within the so-called Bike District, individually or in small groups (including family) and everyone will be responsible for their own behavior and social distancing.

The itineraries identified will be on road and off-road as well as mixed, selected on mule tracks, paths, routes in their own right-of-ways and in the case of roads, favoring those with low traffic impact.

One of the novelties of the event will be the Aperibike, open-air panel discussion conceived and led by Ludovica Casellati and focused on the bicycle boom with its repercussions on the territories and the link with food and wine. There will be spaces for the little ones. On the opening day, a special moment will be dedicated to the commemoration of Francesco Cesarini, a professional cyclist from Spoleto, who passed away last February.
