Between 1700 and 1800, Umbria and Lazio witnessed an important page in the history of art. Many artists from northern Europe, France, Germany, England, fascinated by nature, with varied landscapes and inextricably linked to historical and artistic events, created an enormous artistic heritage "en plein air", directly in nature, representing realistically, years before photography, fascinating glimpses of mythical, historical places, but also never previously represented. From the Ternana Valley to the Roman Castles to Rome, a journey in the footsteps of the plenarists to immerse themselves in "scenes that seem to have appeared in a dream".
Pick up in Rome Fiumicino and transfer to Narni, a beautiful village of Roman origin, situated on the Umbrian hills. Meeting with the guide. Vision of the documentary "La Valle Incantata" (40 minutes) which illustrates the history of the artistic movement and the project that enhances its importance. At the end, departure for an urban trekking route: from the historic center of Narni you reach the "Gole del Nera", a splendid naturalistic path that winds along the homonymous river. Stop at the ancient Ponte di Augusto, on the ancient Via Flaminia which, thanks to the imposing Roman structure on the clear waters of the Nera river, has fascinated important artists such as Turner, Corot, Blechen, Bidauld and many others. Here, as in other parts of our itinerary, it will be possible to admire the reproductions of the works, precisely at the precise point where the artist created them. Opportunity to visit the Abbey of San Cassiano, an ancient Benedictine abbey dating back to the 10th century, located on Monte Santa Croce, in a panoramic position on the Gole del Nera.Hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
