Graffiti dell’Umbria 2025
From April 13 to June 15, 2025, the Museum Complex of San Francesco in Montefalco hosts “Graffiti dell’Umbria. Scritture spontanee medievali e moderne”, a widespread thematic exhibition that invites visitors to rediscover a hidden heritage: graffiti carved between the 8th and 17th centuries on the walls of churches, palaces, and public spaces throughout Umbria.
The aim of the exhibition is to enhance the value of these spontaneous writings, often overlooked yet incredibly rich in meaning. Devotional messages left by pilgrims, personal memories, accounts of historical or natural events, love notes, and signs of everyday life: each graffito is a voice from the past telling the real-life stories of ordinary men and women.
Through photo reproductions, translations, and multimedia content, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on Umbrian history and promotes sustainable tourism through the rediscovery of the sites where these writings were born.
