Commemoration of the First World War in the High Tiber Valley

On the 24th May 1915, Italy entered the war, thus taking part in the biggest conflict ever seen, that changed the course of history forever.

On the occasion of the centenary of the First World War, Castello Bufalini in San Giustino is hosting the exhibition "La memoria della Prima Guerra Mondiale in Altotevere", displaying, until the 31st December objects and documents connected to daily life in the trenches.

At the end of the conflict various war monuments dedicated to the fallen soldiers were built, such as the Famedio (Memorial chapel) in the main cemetery of Città di Castello and the one in San Giustino, and part of the exhibition is dedicated to them.

The memorabilia on display comes both from private collections, like the Casa Pirazzoli Trust, that of Arduino Brizzi, and Associations like Mutilati e Invalidi di Guerra dell'Umbria (ANMIG)- (The Association for the War Wounded of Umbria).

Instead the written testimonies come from the historical archives of the marquises Bufalini and the municipality of San Giustino's archives.
